TEACHERS TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
At the core of Atlab STEM Academy curriculum is a fundamental change to the teacher’s role and the student’s responsibility. Just as the rows of student desks are now gone, so are the traditional roles of teacher and student. The student-centered curriculum shifts the responsibility for learning to the student, encouraging each learner to be responsible for his or her own academic success. The teacher becomes a facilitator of student learning and interacts with students in a positive, powerful way. In an Atlab STEM Academy classroom, teachers spend less time on the traditional tasks of classroom management and student discipline.
Teachers are afforded more one-on-one time with each student. Innovative, hands-on curriculum; the content delivery and assessment framework; and unmatched professional development all work to enable teachers to do what they do best – teach. Such a change in approach to teaching and curriculum delivery naturally requires a new approach to preparing teachers. As a part of the professional development, the Atlab STEM Academy also offers a certified training programme for teachers all throughout the year. The training helps teachers make the transition from their role in a traditional classroom to their role in an Atlab STEM Academy classroom an easy one. The trainings are delivered by highly qualified trainers at the Academy situated in Chennai.
It has well ventilated, spacious training rooms fitted with the latest audio-visual equipment to function as an exciting, collaborative classroom. Trainings are offered as two phases of 5-days each at the end of which, the teachers are certified as STEM educators. The Atlab STEM training Academy has been built with an aim to mould the best STEM teachers, who will make a commitment to champion the cause of STEM education. The Academy will provide all resources to mentor maths and science teachers, inspire students and help their communities grow.
